Why this site is cool: Ajax loading of everything! Ok, so that isn't always a plus and if I were to do it again there are a number of things that I'd push back on, but as you navigate the site there are a number of goodies that make it a little more interesting than most. The dynamic, javascript animated marquee is a unique touch and this all works back to IE6. Oh, and there is a little iframe shopping cart hack that can be interesting to the techie crowd. I was the lead developer of this site though I had nothing to do with the design, and the maps and store details predate this design. My company was sub-contracted to do the development.

Why this site is cool: I love the design of this site and there are a few animations and interfaces I am proud of here but unfortunately this is one of those projects I wish could have been different. The code base we were required to use was old and heavy. As a result the site performance is not what I'd hope. I'm pretty happy with my progress bars and on a fast connection/computer the loading animation can actually look really good. I'd always wanted to do a video game site.
Why this site is cool: My part was a simple but elegant javascript framework that handles the "Trip Planner" tray on the left-hand side of the screen. It exists on all pages and can interact with some of them. It is a flexible framework that can easily be extended with new sections and functionality. The user interaction is handled automatically, allowing other developers to focus on their application and business logic. I was the primary developer of the hotel room booking flow in addition to the framework. I'm rather proud of the usability ideas that actually made it into the final product.
